In Rensselaer County, at least 30,000 teens and adults can't complete a job application, write a letter to a child's school or read the directions on a bottle of cough syrup. Literacy Volunteers of Rensselaer County (LVORC) teaches people to read, write, and speak English, empowers students to be advocates for themselves, and educates the larger community about literacy issues.
LVORC offers one-on-one tutoring sessions, citizenship preparation, and outreach activities that support literacy such as elementary school-based power lunches with adult reading mentors. Visit their website at https://www.lvorc.org/ to learn more!
